MUSKEGON COUNTY FOOD CLUB

Back in 2022, Community Food Club of Grand Rapids received a grant from the Michigan Health Endowment Fund to help support replication of the food club model in two other communities. Feeding America West Michigan identified Muskegon County as an area to prioritize for this opportunity, and Access Health began to facilitate conversations with community stakeholders to explore if this model was a good fit for our county.

Since that time, and in partnership with dozens of local organizations, we have: 

  • Conducted a series of Community Food Talks in 2023 with over 100 residents and food entrepreneurs in the City of Muskegon Heights, gathering feedback on existing assets and opinions about the food club model.
  • Hosted Food Insecurity Roundtable Sessions with community members on 4/15/23 and 5/31/24 to share information and generate feedback.
  • Convened a cross-sector workgroup that has met biweekly since August of 2023.
  • Contracted with New Venture Advisors of LLC in 2024 to complete a Needs Assessment to help determine how the food club model fits with our needs in Muskegon County.
  • Shared the completed Needs Assessment at the Future of Food event on 10/25/24.
